TMS Therapy in Gilbert, AZ

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) has been a cornerstone in the noninvasive treatment landscape for conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, OCD, and other mental health issues for over four decades, offering an alternative to medication. This method employs electromagnetic pulse fields, akin to those used in MRI technology, to directly stimulate areas of the brain that show decreased activity in affected individuals, facilitating safe and controlled healing of the brain. Such stimulation encourages the formation of new neural connections, aiding patients in alleviating the distressing symptoms associated with their mental health condition. At Serenity Mental Health Centers, our approach is deeply rooted in placing the patient's needs and well-being first. Recognizing the unique challenges presented by conditions like depression, anxiety, OCD, and PTSD, we are committed to providing tailored, in-depth care. We believe that medication isn't always the right answer for everyone. During our consultations, we take the time to understand your specific situation and discuss how TMS therapy could serve as a beneficial treatment path for you. For more information on how TMS therapy may benefit you, contact our Gilbert, AZ practice.

Our goal is to simplify the healing process for our patients by eliminating obstacles to treatment. In line with this goal, we strive to make TMS therapy sessions serene and uplifting experiences. Patients are seated in a comfortable chair throughout the therapy, during which we use TMS to focus on specific brain regions associated with mood regulation and emotional health. This technique is entirely noninvasive, avoiding the need for surgery, anesthesia, or sedation of any kind.

After completing TMS therapy treatment, many patients report a significant reduction in symptoms of depression or anxiety, experiencing relief that allows for a more engaged and enjoyable life. While outcomes vary, improvements are typically observed a few weeks into the treatment, with some patients feeling better almost immediately. The effects of TMS can be long-lasting, though follow-up sessions may be recommended to maintain the benefits. Side effects are generally mild, limited mostly to temporary discomfort at the treatment site during the session. Post-treatment, patients often return to their daily activities right away, with no downtime required, making TMS a convenient option for those seeking effective mental health care.

  • Comfortable and Noninvasive: TMS therapy is conducted as an outpatient procedure without the need for surgery or anesthesia, allowing patients to stay comfortable during the session and quickly return to their regular activities or work afterward.
  • Backed by Research: The effectiveness of TMS for treating conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is well-documented through numerous studies.
  • Low Risk and Few Side Effects: Most patients experience minimal to no side effects from TMS therapy. Any side effects that do occur are generally mild, such as temporary headaches, manageable with common pain relievers.
  • Personalized Care: We are dedicated to adapting treatment plans to fit the specific needs of each patient, ensuring that the approach and every TMS session are tailored to individual health goals and circumstances.

My TMS tech Sarah was amazing. She was kind, really cared about me getting well, and was very down to earth and attentive. She treated me like a person not a patient. I will miss her now that I'm done with treatments.

Dr. Dahl is fantastic. It takes great notes. He talks to me and answers all my questions makes sure we have a good plan. Never makes me feel rushed even when I realize I'm talking too much. Serenity mental health center in general is also a facility I recommend. There was a shortage on one of my medications for months. And so I would call. They would get a message to the doctor and we would switch it to an alternative that the pharmacies had available. When sending a message through the portal or leaving a voicemail they call back the same day. I turn around time for the refill or what not to get to the pharmacy they say is up to 72 hours. It's usually less than 24. I definitely recommend this office. Even if you can't get in to see the same doctor. Your mental health is important. This is a great place to get help.

Individuals who are suitable for TMS therapy often include those who haven't had success with standard pharmacological interventions for depression, anxiety, or other mood disorders. It's especially advantageous for patients with conditions that have proven resistant to traditional treatments. Candidates should be diagnosed with a mood disorder by a healthcare provider and should not have any medical conditions that magnetic therapy would exacerbate, such as metal implants in the head or certain types of medical devices. TMS presents a nonsurgical option that can offer symptom relief without the side effects that are often associated with medications, thus representing an appealing alternative for patients in search of different mental health treatment strategies.

Are there side effects to TMS therapy?

TMS therapy is well-regarded for its effectiveness and safety, but it may lead to some temporary side effects, such as mild headaches, discomfort at the stimulation site, and muscle twitching following the session. Generally, these symptoms are short-lived and tend to dissipate on their own.

How effective is TMS therapy?

The results speak for themselves: 75% of individuals who opt for TMS treatment experience significant relief from their symptoms, with 51% reaching symptom remission – a truly remarkable success rate.

How does TMS therapy work?

It's a common experience that depression can lead to a noticeable decrease in energy levels. Similarly, the brain cells responsible for distributing serotonin and dopamine, key neurotransmitters for mood regulation, also suffer from fatigue. TMS therapy aims to rejuvenate these cells, enhancing their ability to deliver serotonin and dopamine more effectively. TMS therapy holds the distinction of being the most extensively researched treatment in the realm of mental health, and we are proud to provide this advanced therapeutic option to our patients.
