Bipolar Disorder in Gilbert, AZ

Bipolar disorder, a mental health condition, induces abnormal shifts in mood and energy levels. While many individuals encounter mood swings, those with bipolar disorder experience heightened emotions, leading to difficulties in managing daily tasks and self-care. Formerly referred to as manic depression, this lifelong condition can affect individuals across all age groups, typically emerging during young adulthood. For those grappling with the aftermath of manic or depressive episodes, Serenity Mental Health Centers offers dedicated support in Gilbert, AZ. Our team is devoted to assisting patients in attaining equilibrium through a range of treatments tailored to address bipolar disorder.

Our team of professionals recognizes that navigating treatment options for bipolar disorder can be a journey. While this mental health condition can be managed with medications like mood stabilizers and antidepressants, psychotherapy also stands as an effective treatment avenue. However, some individuals may encounter intolerable side effects from these conventional treatments or find them ineffective. Hence, we provide alternative therapies such as ketamine IV therapy and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy. By offering a diverse range of treatment options, we empower each patient to identify the approach or combination of approaches that best support them in leading a fulfilling and stable life.

My TMS tech Sarah was amazing. She was kind, really cared about me getting well, and was very down to earth and attentive. She treated me like a person not a patient. I will miss her now that I'm done with treatments.

I was/am very happy with Serenity. I just went thru TMS. My depression was mostly eliminated. However, my anxiety is still there, though to a lesser degree.

Dr. Dahl is fantastic. It takes great notes. He talks to me and answers all my questions makes sure we have a good plan. Never makes me feel rushed even when I realize I'm talking too much. Serenity mental health center in general is also a facility I recommend. There was a shortage on one of my medications for months. And so I would call. They would get a message to the doctor and we would switch it to an alternative that the pharmacies had available. When sending a message through the portal or leaving a voicemail they call back the same day. I turn around time for the refill or what not to get to the pharmacy they say is up to 72 hours. It's usually less than 24. I definitely recommend this office. Even if you can't get in to see the same doctor. Your mental health is important. This is a great place to get help.

Does genetics influence bipolar disorder?

Bipolar disorder can indeed be influenced by genetics, often appearing more prevalently within families, which may elevate the risk for those with genetic links. However, the existence of genetic factors, while impactful, does not solely determine the development of the disorder, as environmental interactions are also vital.

What are the initial indicators of bipolar disorder?

The early symptoms of bipolar disorder typically involve significant emotional and behavioral fluctuations, including:

  • Intense emotional peaks and troughs
  • Altered sleep habits
  • A surge in impulsiveness or irritability
  • Notable variations in energy levels
  • Behaviors that deviate from one's usual routine
How does bipolar disorder differ from depression?

Although periods of depression are common in bipolar disorder, it is distinctly different from depression. Depression is marked by constant sadness, a feeling of hopelessness, and disinterest in activities. Bipolar disorder cycles between these depressive states and episodes of mania or hypomania, characterized by increased mood elevation, energy, and often reckless behaviors. These cycles are not typical characteristics of depression.

Is bipolar disorder the same as mood swings?

Bipolar disorder is not just regular mood swings that most people experience. It involves intense and prolonged mood episodes that are distinct and often require medical intervention.

Are there different types of bipolar disorder?

Bipolar disorder comes in different forms, the main types being Bipolar I, which involves full manic episodes, and Bipolar II, characterized by hypomanic episodes and severe depressive episodes. Cyclothymic disorder is a milder form of the condition, with less severe mood swings.

Bipolar disorder can significantly impact various facets of an individual's life, spanning behaviors, moods, and relationships with loved ones.
